IS PULLI RAJA A ROTE LEARNER?

Every child is a genius only to be converted into an idiot in school wrote noble laureate Alexis carrel. Education should aim at healthy minds not just making wealthy careers. Here the society needs to be thoroughly deschooled to get rid of obsession with marks and ranks in place of healthy education.

In order to address the present education (rote learning system) and to wipe out the obsession of marks and ranks in a common man mind we need to make him understand some questions. Who are running schools and colleges? Why they are running it? Is the intention of the institution is to maximize the profit or to give healthy education. No matter its government institution or private. The only thing to feel happy is, the intention of the government institution is not profit maximization but quality is worst.

If we ask any school student or college student why you are studying? The most probable answer you get from the school student is I want to become a doctor or engineer and from the college student I want to get a job at the end of my course. So the intention of all is job (earning money).

Education is nothing but making the student to understand what is happening around him and teaching him what affects the world will surely affect him. Teacher plays huge role in finding capabilities and addressing weakness of every student. But here we have drawn a line of mark if one crosses the line he/she is intelligent if not he/she is useless. We have to note here how he/she crosses that line. They mug up everything and take vomit in the answer paper may be 1% of the people understand the concept and crosses the line.  The sad thing is where ever the student goes first they ask their percentage or CGPA.

Why this obsession of marks? What make parents to urge their children to get high marks? What drives all these things? Now a day’s almost every colleges have campus placements. The recruiter visits every college and hires labor force. The specifications some recruiters keep are more than 70% from his intermediate, higher secondary and in degree. Recruiter creates a scenario where marks determines their entry to job they create a war of marks. This year the recruitment scenario in April was in peak. The major job providers in India TCS, Infosys and Wipro recruited bulk of people. In these some recruiter classified their recruiting strategy into three steps

1.     First three toppers in every department (only HR interview for them).

2.     Above eighty percentage (exemption from aptitude test).

3.     Remaining (usual process).

It shows what drives the mark race. Who drive it?  But recruiters justify it by saying it’s a reward to their hard work and good performance in their academic.

I remember heads of many companies saying that the students are not up to their expected level. From their side they too can address this problem by not concentrating on rote learners. Unfortunately in the urgent need of labor force they recruit and move on. With 6.9 % of growth rate and negative industrial growth rate, government is surely going to concentrate on bringing back the growth rate on old track but not on this obsession. I believe so these recruiters have the ability to break the obsession of marks and ranks in society by just putting in their recruitment advertisement we don’t need rote learners we regret to recruit rote learners. It would be naïve to believe that a small change from these recruiters can break the obsession of the entire society. The truth is they can. I laud the government for creating an excellent awareness campaign for aids WILL PULLI RAJA GET AIDS?

I foresee such awareness campaign from recruiters to break the obsession of marks and ranks in the society. Let us welcome this New Year with the resolution to spread awareness in the society. IS PULLI RAJA A ROTE LEARNER?
